Why this works

Shows clear progression into route leadership, backed by believable evidence on delivery volume, service, tracking, payments, depot work and team support.

Junior vs senior: what changes
AspectJuniorSenior
Personal statementLead with transferable evidence from driving, retail, customer service or warehouse work, then state the type of courier position sought.Open with the scale of courier experience, delivery environments covered and the strongest record for service, efficiency or dependable completion.
Delivery evidenceUse smaller, believable measures such as parcels handled during a shift, accurate scanning or punctual attendance during temporary work.Show sustained performance across larger rounds, busy periods or several drivers, with figures for volume, completion, service or operational improvement.
Route planningShow confident use of GPS navigation and examples of learning local roads or arranging a simple delivery sequence.Demonstrate route optimisation across changing workloads, wider territories or multiple rounds, and connect the decisions to a measured result.
Customer serviceGive one or two examples of polite communication, accurate handovers and calm handling of routine delivery questions.Show how you resolved repeated service issues, supported colleagues or improved the way delivery exceptions and customer queries were handled.
Depot contributionMention loading, unloading, sorting and package checks completed accurately under supervision.Describe responsibility for workflow, handovers or team standards, while making personal accountability and results clear.
CV emphasisEducation, transferable skills and evidence of reliability can take more space when direct courier experience is limited.Recent courier achievements should dominate; older or unrelated work can be shortened so leadership, scale and operational results are easy to find.

How to write a courier CV

Use a clean, reverse-chronological layout that lets a recruiter find your recent experience quickly. Two pages is a sensible ceiling for most applicants; one page can work when you are new to courier work. Use plain section headings, consistent dates and a readable typeface. Avoid columns, graphics, a photograph and personal details such as your date of birth.

SectionWhat to include
Contact detailsName, UK location, mobile number, professional email and optional profile link
Personal statementTarget role, relevant background and two pieces of evidence that separate you from other applicants
EmploymentRecent roles first, with three to five achievement bullets beneath each position
SkillsA short, tailored selection supported by examples elsewhere in the CV
EducationQualification, institution and dates, with the most recent entry first
ExtrasRelevant volunteering, languages or interests only when they strengthen the application

Keep the personal statement to roughly three sentences. State what kind of courier work you have done, the operating scale you understand and the result you can prove. If you are changing careers, connect driving, warehousing experience, retail or customer-facing experience to the vacancy without pretending it was courier work.

In employment entries, describe outcomes rather than copying a task list. Typical courier work can involve loading goods, driving to delivery and collection points, unloading at a depot and moving goods within a warehouse. It can also include recording deliveries and handling payments. Select only the duties that match your actual experience, then attach defensible figures such as daily stop volume, delivery accuracy or reduced failed deliveries.

Tailor the skills section to the advert. Relevant evidence may cover local-road knowledge, efficient collections and deliveries, customer communication, GPS navigation and route optimisation. Keep education compact unless you are early in your career. Add extras sparingly; a clean driving record or useful warehouse background belongs in the most relevant section rather than being buried at the bottom.

Personal statement examples

Stronger example

Reliable courier with three years' experience completing urban delivery and collection rounds of up to 85 stops a day. Confident using GPS navigation to adjust delivery sequences, recording handovers accurately and dealing calmly with customers. Reduced failed first attempts by 12% over six months by checking access notes before departure and contacting recipients at agreed points.

Too generic

Hard-working person looking for a courier job. I am punctual, friendly and good at driving. I can work alone or with a team and will do whatever is needed.

Writing your experience

Write each employment bullet as a small piece of proof. Start with an action, state the scale or difficulty, and finish with the result. A useful pattern is: action + scope + measured outcome. The number does not need to be dramatic. An accurate daily average, a verified percentage or a documented improvement is more convincing than a vague claim about being excellent.

BeforeAfter
Delivered parcels to customersCompleted an average of 72 urban stops per shift while maintaining 98% recorded first-attempt delivery accuracy
Planned routesReordered a 64-stop round around road closures, finishing 35 minutes earlier than the previous weekly average
Helped in the warehouseChecked labels and packaging for 180 outgoing parcels per shift, cutting dispatch corrections from nine a week to three

Courier duties often cover loading parcels or pallets, making deliveries and collections, returning goods to the depot and helping move stock in the warehouse. Other work can include recording deliveries, taking payments and obtaining proof of delivery. Your bullets should show how well you handled the work, not simply confirm that it appeared in your job description.

Use verbs that name the action: delivered, collected, loaded, checked, recorded, routed, scanned, resolved, processed, reorganised and trained. For customer issues, explain what you fixed and what changed: "Resolved 14 address queries during a peak-week round, enabling 12 deliveries to be completed that day." For payment-on-delivery work, record only responsibilities you genuinely held: "Processed 26 payment-on-delivery packages over one month with no till reconciliation discrepancies."

Junior applicants can draw evidence from retail, food delivery, warehouse, volunteering or other driving work. A senior applicant should show wider scale, coaching, route allocation or operational improvements. In either case, avoid invented precision. If the employer did not record a percentage, use a defensible count, frequency or range instead.

Education & certifications

Place education after employment unless you have little relevant experience. Give the qualification or course title, provider and completion date. Add one short note only when it explains relevant learning or a practical project; school-level detail becomes less useful once your employment record carries the application.

For UK delivery-driver applications, employers expect a good driving record, good road-network and geographical knowledge, and basic English and maths skills. Present that evidence plainly in the appropriate section. Warehousing or other driving experience can help a direct application, although it is not always essential. Courier drivers are also expected to understand how to use tracking systems effectively, so any genuine training or assessed experience with those systems can sit under education, professional development or employment.

One specific apprenticeship route has conditional English and maths rules. Express delivery service apprentices who do not already have Level 1 English and Maths need to achieve Level 1 English and Maths before the end point assessment. Those apprentices also need to take the test for Level 2 English and Maths before that assessment. State these exact qualifications only when they apply to your route and record; do not imply that every courier applicant needs them.

There is no value in padding this section with unrelated short courses. If the vacancy asks for a role-specific qualification, copy its exact title only when you genuinely hold it, and keep evidence such as the awarding date ready.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • AvoidListing "driving" as the main skill without showing the delivery work around it.

InsteadAdd evidence of route planning, collections, parcel handling and completed deliveries. A short result such as the number of daily stops or proportion completed on schedule gives the recruiter something concrete to assess.

  • AvoidWriting duties as a flat list copied from a courier job advert.

InsteadTurn each point into evidence. State the action, the scale and the result, for example how many parcels you handled, how large an area you covered or how accurately you recorded completed drops.

  • AvoidLeaving customer contact out of the courier CV.

InsteadInclude an example of clear doorstep communication, handling a delivery query or resolving an access problem. Courier work involves customer service as well as moving packages between locations.

  • AvoidMentioning navigation software without explaining how it affected the round.

InsteadConnect GPS navigation and route optimisation to a defensible outcome, such as fewer late stops, reduced mileage or a more efficient delivery sequence. Use only figures you can verify.

  • AvoidIgnoring depot and warehouse work because the target title is Courier.

InsteadInclude relevant loading, unloading, sorting, shipment processing or package checks. These details show that you understand the whole journey of an item, rather than only the driving stage.

  • AvoidUsing one generic courier CV for every vacancy.

InsteadMatch the opening skills and recent experience to the advert. Give priority to the parcel types, collection work, tracking tasks, payment handling or customer contact that the employer actually mentions.
