Prepare for your technical interview

Updated 11 September 2026

For applicants to Synoptix technical and operational roles, its UK process begins with a telephone call and may continue to two interviews: the first is typically remote, while the second is typically held in person. This employer-specific example shows one possible interview route; the guide explains what happens at each documented stage and how to prepare without assuming every technical employer follows the same process. Review the evidence in your technical CV before choosing truthful examples to discuss.

01

Interview process examples

The stages below describe Synoptix's UK process for technical and operational roles. They are an employer-specific example, not a standard sequence for every technical interview; no vacancy or seniority level is specified.

  1. Initial telephone call

    Telephone call

    Depends on the employer

For applicants to Synoptix technical and operational roles, a team member discusses the applicant's current and previous experience, the role, working at Synoptix and the applicant's questions. Synoptix then discusses the applicant's suitability internally.

    How to prepare

    • Re-read your CV and application, then choose truthful examples from your current and previous experience.
    • Prepare questions about the vacancy and working at Synoptix.
    • Practise explaining your personal actions, reasoning, result and learning concisely.

  2. First interview

    Typically remote

    Depends on the employer

For applicants to Synoptix technical and operational roles, the first interview is typically remote and explores technical experience and company fit.

    What they assess

    • Technical experience
    • Company fit

    How to prepare

    • Choose truthful examples that show what you personally did and why.
    • Review the job description and identify the experience you can substantiate.
    • If the interview is remote, test your camera, microphone, connection and meeting link.

  3. Second interview

Typically in person at Synoptix's offices

    Depends on the employer

For applicants reaching Synoptix's second interview for technical and operational roles, the meeting typically takes place in person at its offices and focuses more on a technical area or project. It also gives those applicants an opportunity to see the working environment and meet key stakeholders.

    What they assess

    • A technical area or project

    How to prepare

    • Prepare one genuine technical or project example that you can explain from context to result.
    • Be ready to distinguish your contribution from the wider team's work.
    • Prepare questions about the working environment and the stakeholders you meet.
02

Your preparation plan

Start with the job description, your application and your technical CV. Choose a small set of genuine examples rather than memorising scripts. For each example, note the context, your responsibility, what you did, why you did it, the result and what you learnt. Make the limits of your involvement clear.

If you are applying for Chubb Fire & Security Ltd's Blackburn 3rd Line Support Analyst vacancy, review your genuine experience with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP and Windows infrastructure. That vacancy also specifies networking, firewalls, WAN/LAN and VPN troubleshooting; support for Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Entra ID; and troubleshooting with logs, monitoring tools and root-cause analysis. These are requirements for that particular vacancy, not for every technical role.

Practise aloud, but keep the wording flexible enough to answer the question actually asked. Confirm the arrangements the day before. If your interview is remote, test your equipment and connection; if any instructions are unclear, ask the named contact.

The week before

  • Review the job description and mark each point you can support with a truthful example.
  • Read your CV and application so that dates, responsibilities and project details are fresh.
  • Choose examples that show your responsibility, actions, reasoning, result and learning.

  • Prepare two or three questions about the vacancy, team and working arrangements.
  • Confirm the time, location or meeting link, named contact and any instructions.
  • If your interview is remote, test your camera, microphone, connection and meeting link.

On the day

  • Bring any permitted notes and the information needed to reach or join the interview.
  • Listen to each question fully, ask for clarification when needed and use an example you can discuss honestly.
