How to write a nanny CV
A nanny CV should be two pages maximum, reverse-chronological, and front-loaded with the credentials families screen for first: paediatric first aid, DBS, Ofsted registration (if applicable), and your childcare qualification level. No photo, no date of birth.
Format and sections
Lead with a personal statement (2–3 sentences summarising your experience level, key qualifications, and the age ranges and arrangements you're suited to), then contact details (location, mobile, email, LinkedIn). Follow with key skills (paediatric first aid, DBS, EYFS, any specialist skills like SEN or newborn care), work experience (most recent first), education (qualifications with levels and awarding bodies), and additional information (driving licence, live-in/live-out preference, notice period, references).
Personal statement
Open with your years of experience, the age ranges you've cared for, and your headline credential (Level 3 CACHE, Norland, current paediatric first aid). Add one standout skill or niche (newborn care, SEN, twins) and close with your arrangement preference (live-in, live-out, or flexible).
Experience
For each nanny role, give the family's location (not their name in the heading, use "Private Family (Hampstead)" or similar), your title (Nanny, Live-In Nanny, Maternity Nurse), dates, and 3–4 bullets. Each bullet should combine a concrete duty with a quantified outcome: "Managed a structured daily routine for two children aged 2 and 5, including school drop-offs, EYFS activities, and meal prep, maintaining a 100% on-time record over three years." Spell out extras like light housekeeping, family travel, or pet care, since they materially affect pay and fit.
Skills
List paediatric first aid (with expiry date), DBS status (enhanced, Update Service), Ofsted registration (if applicable), safeguarding training, EYFS knowledge, and any specialist skills (SEN, newborn care, twins, multilingual care). Add practical skills like meal prep, school runs, and a clean driving licence if you have one.
Education and certifications
Give the level and awarding body for childcare qualifications (e.g. Level 3 CACHE Diploma, where Level 2 ≈ GCSE and Level 3 ≈ A-level). Note EYFS coverage if you care for under-5s. Put paediatric first aid, DBS, and safeguarding in a separate "Certifications" or "Achievements" section with dates so families can see they're current.
Additional information
State your driving licence status (and whether you have your own car), live-in vs live-out preference, notice period, and availability. If you have written references from previous families, note that here and offer to provide contact details, a line from a parent carries far more weight than "references available on request."

What NOT to do
Don't write "I love children" without specifics. Don't leave employment gaps unexplained, families placing a child carer are cautious about breaks. Don't say "references available on request" if you can offer named references with permission. Don't list duties without outcomes.

Writing your experience
Nanny achievement bullets must combine a concrete duty with a quantified outcome. Families want proof you can handle their specific age range, arrangement, and any extras (school runs, meal prep, travel). The formula: action + context (ages, number of children, contract type) + measurable result.

Action verbs for nanny CVs
Use verbs that signal trust, structure, and outcomes: managed, established, supported, coordinated, designed, maintained, introduced, accompanied, liaised, implemented, reduced, built.
What to quantify
- Number and ages of children cared for
- Contract type and hours (live-in 12 hrs/day, live-out Mon–Fri 8am–6pm)
- Length of tenure with a family ("over four years")
- On-time record for school runs or activities
- Developmental outcomes ("sleeping through the night by 9 months," "school-assessed reading levels lifted")
- Incident-free record ("maintained an accident-free record over three years")
- Reduction in behavioural challenges ("reduced meltdowns by 60% over 18 months")
If you supported a child with SEN, name the condition (with family permission) and the strategies you used (visual schedules, sensory activities, liaison with SENCO). If you cared for twins or multiples, say so, it's a high-value differentiator.

Childcare qualifications
List the level and awarding body for any childcare qualification: Level 2 or 3 CACHE Diploma, BTEC, NVQ, Norland Diploma, or NNEB. Level 2 is roughly equivalent to GCSEs, Level 3 to A-levels. Note if the course covered EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage), since families with under-5s will ask. If you completed a practical placement, mention the hours and setting (nursery, family, school).
Paediatric first aid
Paediatric first aid is the single most valued nanny credential. The 12-hour certificate (combining theory and practice) is preferred over the shorter emergency course and must be renewed every three years. List it with the expiry date so families can see it's current. If you're on a renewal course, note the date booked.
DBS and safeguarding
State your DBS status explicitly: enhanced DBS, date of issue, and whether you're on the Update Service (which lets families check it online). List safeguarding or child-protection training separately, with the level (1, 2, or 3) and awarding body (NSPCC, local authority, etc.). A missing safeguarding signal is a red flag on a nanny CV.
Ofsted registration
If you're Ofsted-registered as a childminder, flag it prominently, it isn't a qualification, but it signals you already hold paediatric first aid, DBS, public liability insurance, and Common Core Skills training, and it lets families pay you via childcare vouchers or Tax-Free Childcare.
Specialist training

Common mistakes to avoid
Writing 'I love children' or 'passionate about childcare' with no concrete examples.
Replace filler with one specific example: 'Established a structured sleep-training routine for a reflux baby that resulted in sleeping through the night by 9 months.' One concrete story beats five generic lines.
Listing duties without outcomes ('responsible for school runs,' 'prepared meals').
Quantify the impact: 'Managed daily school runs for three children (ages 5, 7, and 9), maintaining a 100% on-time record over two years.' Families want proof you can deliver, not just a task list.
Omitting the number and ages of children cared for in each role.
State it in every experience bullet: 'Sole charge of two children (ages 2 and 5) in a live-out role, Monday to Friday 8am–6pm.' Families screen on whether you've handled their specific age range and arrangement.
Leaving paediatric first aid undated or expired.
List the certificate with the expiry date: 'Paediatric First Aid (12-hour, expires March 2027).' An expired or missing date signals you may not be insurable or legally compliant.
Not explaining employment gaps.
Briefly account for breaks: 'Career break to care for elderly parent (Jan 2023–Aug 2023)' or 'Maternity leave (June 2024–Dec 2024).' Families placing a child carer are especially cautious about unexplained gaps.
Writing 'references available on request' instead of offering named references.
If you have permission, note: 'References available from three previous families (2019–present), including contact details and ages of children cared for.' A line from a parent carries far more weight than a placeholder.
