Role cover letter

Dental Hygiene cover letter example and writing guide

Updated 3 September 2026

A dental hygiene cover letter should connect your strongest relevant evidence to the vacancy and the employer's work. Use these four UK examples alongside the Dental Hygiene CV guide, and check the Dental Hygiene salary guide when assessing an opportunity.

Square brackets mark facts only you can supply. Replace each prompt; never send the placeholders unchanged.

The role stays the same. The evidence changes with your starting point.

Replace every highlighted prompt

Dear [Hiring manager's name],

I am applying for the Dental Hygienist vacancy because your work through [specific employer service] matches the patient care I want to support. My experience has shown me the value of calm communication and close attention to detail.

Role fit

That experience would help me contribute to [team objective]. I would bring the same careful, compassionate approach to your patients and colleagues.

I would value a conversation about your service and where my experience could be useful.

Write your own covering letter

Opening

Name the Dental Hygienist vacancy and [Company name] in your first sentence. Then give one concrete reason for applying, based on the employer's patients, treatment setting or [specific employer service]. Check whether the role is in a general dental practice, hospital or community service before describing that connection. Address a known recipient by name; otherwise use "Dear Hiring Manager" without guessing.

Choose your evidence

Choose evidence that matches the vacancy rather than listing every dental skill you have. If the post includes training duties, describe a time you taught, demonstrated a procedure or gave useful feedback, then state the result. For a role with scope to progress into practice management, use an example that shows you can organise work, support colleagues and take responsibility. Early-career applicants can draw on training or placements; career changers should connect one previous responsibility to the advertised work.

Build the body

Keep the body to two short paragraphs. In the first, describe one situation that proves a skill the vacancy calls for, such as communication, attention to detail, compassion, problem-solving or manual dexterity. State what you did and what changed as a result. In the second, connect that evidence to the advertised patients, service or team instead of repeating your CV. If you are applying internally, use a recent achievement to show that you can handle the added responsibility. You can also mention relevant support or learning from a professional body when it strengthens your case.

Format it

For an online UK application, use a business greeting and short paragraphs, then finish with the appropriate closing and your typed full name. Follow any instructions in the application system. If it already collects your address, you do not need to repeat your postal details in the letter.

Close and sign off

Close by saying you would welcome a conversation about how your experience could help the employer deliver dental hygiene services to its patients. Keep the wording confident but do not assume an interview. Use "Yours sincerely" after a named greeting and "Yours faithfully" after "Dear Hiring Manager" or "Dear Sir or Madam".

03
