Role cover letter

Health Care Assistant cover letter example and writing guide

Updated 9 September 2026

A strong health care assistant cover letter connects your best evidence to the advertised post without retelling your whole work history. Check that evidence against your Health Care Assistant CV, then tailor the application letter to the vacancy.

Square brackets mark facts only you can supply. Replace each prompt; never send the placeholders unchanged.

The role stays the same. The evidence changes with your starting point.

Write your own covering letter

Opening

Open by naming the Health Care Assistant post and [Company name], then explain why this vacancy interests you. Use [specific employer priority] from the advert instead of praising the organisation in general. That priority might be contributing to person-centred care within a multidisciplinary team or preparing and closing clinics in line with local procedures, but include it only when the vacancy says so. End the paragraph by pointing to the experience you will discuss next, such as [relevant achievement].

Choose your evidence

Pick two duties from the advert and give one clear example for each: what you did, how you approached it and what changed. If the vacancy stresses organisation, show how you prioritised competing shift tasks so patients received timely care. Read clinical duties closely. One AMU post listed heart-rate measurement alongside blood-glucose recording, urinalysis, blood-pressure monitoring, fluid-balance records, skin checks, bladder scanning and ECG monitoring. Claim only the tasks you have been trained and assessed to perform.

Build the body

Use two body paragraphs, each built around one example. Describe the situation, what you did and the result, then show how it prepares you for [advertised responsibility]. Choose evidence that fits the vacancy. For a post involving direct patient care under a registered nurse's supervision, you might discuss how you followed instructions and kept the nurse informed. If the advert mentions observations, include measurements you have been trained to take, record and report. You could also show how you protected confidentiality or treated patients and families with dignity. Career changers should explain [transition reason] and connect earlier responsibilities to recent preparation. Internal applicants should use a current achievement that shows readiness for the new responsibility.

Format it

Keep an online UK cover letter easy to scan. Start with a greeting, follow with three or four short paragraphs, and finish with the appropriate closing and your typed name. Use a clear font and consistent spacing, and avoid decorative layouts that may distract from your application. Before submitting, check that the letter matches the vacancy and that names, spelling and grammar are correct.

Close and sign off

End with the contribution you could make or a point you would discuss at interview. If the vacancy includes assessed competencies, you could mention evidence of your training and skills, but only when you can substantiate it. Use "Yours sincerely," after a named greeting and "Yours faithfully," after "Dear Hiring Manager" or "Dear Sir or Madam".

03
