Solutions Architect cover letter examples and writing guide

Updated 10 September 2026

A strong solutions architect cover letter connects one well-chosen example to the employer's needs. Check the evidence in your Solutions Architect CV, then use the Solutions Architect salary guide to understand the role's UK pay context before applying.

Square brackets mark facts only you can supply. Replace each prompt; never send the placeholders unchanged.

Write your own covering letter

Opening

Open by naming the Solutions Architect vacancy and explaining why this employer interests you. Then lead with your strongest relevant evidence, such as a computing qualification, a Digital and Technology Solutions degree apprenticeship or practical computing experience. Keep the focus on what qualifies you for this role rather than summarising your work history.

Choose your evidence

Start with the advert, not a stock list of architect skills. If it names a technical degree or an architecture certification such as TOGAF or BCS Architect, check whether the employer describes it as essential or merely desirable. Then choose one example that answers a stated priority. Explain the situation, the action you took and the result, using figures only when you can substantiate them. A focused example will usually make a stronger case than several brief claims.

Build the body

Build the letter around three or four short paragraphs. Open with the vacancy and your reason for choosing the employer. Next, use one example that shows how you solved a complex problem or made a sound judgement, then explain the outcome. If you add a second example, choose a different part of the role, such as working with others or explaining a technical decision clearly. Finish by linking that evidence to the advertised responsibility and asking for a discussion. Career changers and early-career applicants can use recent training or project work; internal applicants can use a current achievement. In each case, spend more space on what you did than on background.

Format it

For an online UK application, use a greeting, concise letter text, the appropriate closing and your typed name. You can leave out postal contact details if the application system collects them separately. Use UK spelling, keep the layout easy to read and proofread the letter before submitting it.

Close and sign off

Keep the final paragraph brief. Link the evidence already given to one advertised need, such as planning the preferred solution or managing the move to a new system, then ask to discuss your application. Do not add a new example here. Use "Yours sincerely" after a named greeting and "Yours faithfully" after "Dear Hiring Manager" or "Dear Sir or Madam".
