Write your own covering letter

Opening

Name the Teacher Aide vacancy, [Company name] and one genuine reason for applying. If you know the recipient, use [Hiring manager's name]; otherwise write "Dear Hiring Manager". Introduce one piece of relevant evidence early instead of opening with enthusiasm alone.

Choose your evidence

Choose two or three priorities from the advertisement and employer research. Useful evidence could show how you helped pupils access learning, develop confidence or become more independent. Other relevant examples may demonstrate communication and relationship building, adapting explanations or resources, or using praise and clear boundaries in line with school policy. State what you did and add [measurable result] where one exists.

Build the body

Use a concise opening, two evidence-led body paragraphs and a short closing. Depending on the vacancy, one paragraph could cover preparing learning spaces and resources; another could explain how you recorded pupil progress and gave teachers regular, detailed feedback. Evidence involving literacy, numeracy, digital systems, pupil wellbeing or safeguarding should appear only when it is true and relevant. Internal applicants should identify [specific contribution] from their current work and connect it to [advertised responsibility].

Format it

For an online UK application, include a greeting, three or four concise paragraphs, a conventional closing and your typed name. Omit postal details when the application system already collects them. Keep the presentation professional and proofread the letter for spelling and grammar before every submission.

Close and sign off

End by stating the contribution you hope to make and your interest in discussing the vacancy. Use "Yours sincerely," after a named greeting and "Yours faithfully," after "Dear Hiring Manager" or "Dear Sir or Madam". Put [Your full name] on the following line.

03

Final check before you send it

  • Each claimed strength is supported by a relevant example rather than flattery or unsupported description.
  • Every placeholder is replaced with one accurate candidate or employer fact.
  • The greeting and UK sign-off match.
  • Spelling, grammar and presentation have been checked before submission.
