How to write an estate agent CV

Use a clean, reverse-chronological format with clear headings and restrained styling. One or two pages will suit most applicants: one page can work for a new entrant, while two pages give an experienced agent room to show progression and results. Put your name and contact details first, followed by a personal statement, employment history, skills and education.

SectionWhat earns its place
Personal statementYour level, relevant strengths and one credible result or point of difference
Employment historyRecent roles, measurable outcomes and evidence matched to the vacancy
SkillsShort, specific capabilities supported elsewhere in the CV
EducationAwarded qualifications, training and completion dates
ExtrasRelevant languages, volunteering or local knowledge only

Keep the personal statement to three or four lines. For experience, give the most space to recent and relevant positions; use concise bullets instead of listing every routine duty. In the skills section, connect communication, sales awareness, negotiation support, diary coordination and record accuracy to brief evidence rather than presenting an untested list. Education should be compact unless you are relying on it to enter the field. Extras are optional and should answer a likely employer question, not fill space.

Tailor the estate agent CV template to the branch, market and wording of each advert. Preserve standard headings and plain formatting so the document remains easy to scan.

Personal statement examples

Stronger example

Estate agent with four years' experience supporting residential sales across a busy city branch. Regularly managed a live applicant register, coordinated weekly viewing diaries and kept vendors informed through consistent follow-up. Known for calm negotiation support, accurate records and converting enquiries into booked appointments.

Too generic

Hard-working estate agent looking for a new challenge with a good company. I am friendly, organised and passionate about property. I work well alone or with a team and can turn my hand to anything.

Writing your experience

An estate agent CV sample becomes convincing when its bullets show what changed because of your work. Start with an action, name the scope, then give the outcome: "Improved + process or activity + scale + measurable result." Numbers might cover appointments booked, instructions supported, offers progressed, response times, database accuracy or an honestly recorded conversion rate. Use only figures you can verify.

A weak bullet says: "Responsible for arranging viewings." A stronger version says: "Reorganised the viewing diary for 28 active properties, cutting double bookings from five in one month to one the next." The second version names the action, workload and result.

Another weak bullet says: "Helped with property marketing." Try: "Prepared portal copy and image packs for 16 new listings in eight weeks, with every listing published by the agreed launch date." This shows output and reliability without inflating the candidate's authority.

A third weak bullet says: "Spoke to buyers and sellers." A more useful version is: "Made structured follow-up calls after 42 viewings, recording feedback within 24 hours for 95% of appointments and securing six second viewings." It gives the reader a clear picture of the work.

Choose verbs that match your actual involvement. "Booked", "coordinated", "prepared", "updated" and "followed up" suit support work. "Negotiated", "converted", "progressed", "won" and "increased" are stronger and should appear only when you owned that result. Senior candidates can use "led", "coached", "forecast" and "restructured" when their evidence shows leadership or branch-level responsibility.

Keep each bullet to one or two lines. Avoid cramming several unrelated claims into one sentence. If a result depended on a team, describe your contribution precisely rather than taking sole credit. Recent roles normally deserve three to five strong bullets; older or less relevant jobs can be reduced to one or two points that prove transferable customer service, sales experience, administration or time management.

Education & certifications

There is more than one route into estate agency, so present the route you actually completed rather than implying that every applicant needs the same qualification. Optional UK entry routes supported for this role include the Junior Estate Agent Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, Housing and Property Management Assistant Level 2 Intermediate Apprenticeship, and Housing and Property Management Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship. The listed apprenticeship routes can take between one year and one year and six months. A trainee sales negotiator position, letting agent assistant role or estate-agency administration job with workplace training can also provide an entry route.

List an awarded qualification with its exact title, provider and completion year. If it is still in progress, state the expected completion date plainly. Do not place an unfinished course among completed awards. School, college or university education can be shown briefly in reverse-chronological order, with modules or projects included only when they strengthen an application.

Local area knowledge is preferred rather than universally required, so demonstrate it through credible experience such as work, volunteering or long-term familiarity with the branch's area. Junior Estate Agents work under supervision and are required within that route to understand and comply with contractual, statutory and legal restrictions and client confidentiality; relevant training should therefore be described accurately, without claiming authority you did not hold.

Membership of the National Association of Estate Agents may be included only when it is genuinely held and its description is accurate. Keep optional training separate from awarded qualifications, and never add a credential merely because it appears in a vacancy.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • AvoidListing duties such as answering calls and booking appointments without showing their effect on viewings, client service or deal progress.

InsteadTurn each duty into evidence. State the action, its scale and a defensible result, such as the number of viewing appointments coordinated or the proportion of records completed accurately.

  • AvoidUsing a generic skills list that gives no proof of customer communication, sales awareness or negotiation support.

InsteadAdd a short supporting detail beside the most relevant skills, drawn from work, volunteering or education. Use only figures and outcomes you can defend.

  • AvoidLeaving out diary coordination and record accuracy even though the role depends on organised appointments and dependable client information.

InsteadShow how you managed competing bookings, updated digital or paper records and completed follow-ups within agreed timescales.

  • AvoidDescribing sales ability without mentioning buyers, vendors, landlords, tenants, objections or follow-up activity.

InsteadName the people you dealt with and explain how you identified needs, responded to questions or helped keep an enquiry or deal moving.

  • AvoidSending the same estate agent CV to every branch.

InsteadAdjust the personal statement, skills order and recent experience to the advertised work and the company's stated values. Keep the evidence truthful rather than copying phrases you cannot support.

  • AvoidClaiming local knowledge or commercial awareness as personal qualities with no context.

InsteadGive a compact example, such as researching an area, matching client requirements or recognising a referral opportunity. Avoid unsupported claims about markets you have not worked in.
