Vendor Management CV Example and Writing Guide

Updated 7 August 2026

A good vendor management CV shows how you handle commercial relationships, contracts, performance and risk, rather than merely listing suppliers you have worked with. This guide explains how to structure that evidence, sharpen your personal statement and turn routine duties into credible achievements.

How to write a vendor management CV

Use a clean, reverse-chronological format, with your latest role first. Aim for two pages unless you are at the start of your career and can make a convincing case in one. Keep the layout restrained: clear headings, consistent dates, readable type and enough white space to scan the page quickly. A vendor management CV should look organised because its presentation is evidence of how carefully you handle information.

SectionWhat to include
Contact detailsName, UK location, mobile, professional email and profile link
Personal statementYour level, vendor management scope and one or two relevant outcomes
EmploymentEmployer, title, dates and achievement-led bullets, newest role first
SkillsA compact selection matched to the vacancy
Education and trainingRelevant qualifications and completed professional training
Additional detailsLanguages or other information only where it helps your application

Open with a short personal statement tailored to the post. State the type of work you have done, such as vendor relationships, contract coordination, performance monitoring or risk management, then give the reader a reason to continue.

Under employment, use three to six bullets for recent, relevant roles and fewer for older jobs. Give the scale of your work where you can: vendor count, contract value, review volume, service level movement, savings or time recovered. Use only numbers you can defend. Candidates with extensive vendor management experience should place employment before education.

Select skills from the vacancy rather than filling half a page with generic qualities. Useful evidence may cover vendor selection, negotiation, relationship management, contract management, performance monitoring and risk management. Your education section should be brief once you have substantial experience; early-career candidates can give relevant modules, projects or placements more room. Add training only when it is relevant and completed, and remove hobbies, old duties or personal details that do not support the application.

Personal statement examples

Stronger example

Vendor management professional with five years' experience coordinating a portfolio of service suppliers, contract renewals and quarterly performance reviews. Improved on-time delivery from 89% to 96% across 18 vendors by introducing consistent scorecards and action tracking, while resolving recurring service issues with procurement and operational teams.

Too generic

Hard-working vendor manager with excellent communication skills and a passion for building relationships. I am a team player who works well under pressure and would like a new opportunity to develop my career.

Writing your experience

Strong experience bullets connect an action to its scope and result. Start with what you changed, add enough context to make the work understandable, then close with a number the reader can test in an interview. For example: "Introduced monthly scorecards for 22 facilities suppliers, raising on-time corrective-action closure from 71% to 93% in six months." The figure works because it measures the outcome, not simply the workload.

Vendor management roles commonly involve relationships, contracts, performance, reporting and organisational risk. Choose the parts relevant to the vacancy and show what improved through your work. If a result depended on several teams, describe your contribution accurately instead of claiming the whole result.

Duty-led bulletEvidence-led rewrite
Responsible for vendor reviewsRan quarterly reviews for 14 technology vendors, agreeing action plans that reduced overdue service issues from 19 to 6
Helped with contract renewalsPrepared commercial comparisons and renewal timetables for 11 contracts, completing every review before its notice deadline
Managed supplier relationshipsSet up monthly meetings with eight logistics suppliers, cutting unresolved delivery escalations by 32% over nine months

Other useful measures include the number of vendors or contracts handled, spend under oversight, service-level performance, renewal completion, issue-resolution time, avoided cost and audit findings closed. Do not force a financial figure onto every bullet. A reliable operational measure is better than a vague or inflated saving, and you should use only figures you can explain and defend.

Choose direct verbs that reflect your part in the work: negotiated, evaluated, onboarded, reviewed, monitored, reconciled, resolved, mitigated, renewed, consolidated, reported and implemented. "Supported" is fair for junior work, but follow it with the task and result. "Responsible for" usually wastes space because the bullet still has to explain what happened.

Keep current-role bullets in the present tense for continuing responsibilities and use the past tense for completed results. Prioritise achievements from the last five to ten years, shorten routine older work and reuse vacancy terms such as vendor selection, contract negotiation, performance monitoring or risk management only when they accurately match your experience. If you are moving into a broader operational role, see this operations manager CV guide.

Education & certifications

There is no single role-specific qualification in the supplied guidance that applies to every vendor management applicant. Present your highest relevant awarded qualification with the institution and completion year, then add completed training that supports the vacancy. Do not turn a short course into a professional designation, and do not list planned study as completed.

Relevant vendor management training may cover vendor selection based on quality, cost and trust; onboarding and shared goals; negotiation of pricing, delivery and timelines; and performance improvement through feedback and regular reviews. Describe the actual course title and provider shown on your record. If the training included a practical project, one short line on its scope can help an early-career application.

Some vacancies set their own education or software sift criteria. For example, a UK Debt Management Office Business Delivery Administrator vacancy required GCSE Maths and English at grade 5 or equivalent, experience with invoices and contracts, and MS Office experience including intermediate Excel and Word. Those conditions belong to that vacancy, not to vendor management work generally. Include them only when applying through a route where they are relevant and you genuinely meet them.

For experienced applicants, keep education below employment and focus space on recent commercial results. Early-career candidates can add relevant coursework, procurement projects, placements or supplier-facing administration. Check the advert before applying, preserve its exact wording when describing any role-specific qualification, and never imply that optional training is an entry requirement.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • AvoidListing vendor duties without showing results, scale or commercial effect.

InsteadTurn each duty into evidence: name the action, the vendor or contract scope and a defensible result. Use figures only when you can support them.

  • AvoidTreating relationship management as a vague personality claim.

InsteadShow how you established vendor relationships, handled difficult conversations or built agreement around shared outcomes.

  • AvoidMentioning contract management without explaining what you controlled.

InsteadSpecify whether you supported evaluation or negotiation, tracked renewals, monitored compliance, maintained central records or reviewed delivery against agreed outcomes.

  • AvoidGiving performance monitoring only a passing mention.

InsteadDescribe the metrics, dashboards or scorecards you used, the issue they exposed and the improvement or escalation that followed.

  • AvoidLeaving vendor risk buried in a general skills list.

InsteadAdd experience evidence showing how you recognised, monitored or mitigated a vendor risk, while keeping confidential details out of the CV.

  • AvoidSending the same CV for every vacancy.

InsteadMatch truthful experience wording to the advert, using relevant terms such as vendor selection, contract negotiation, performance monitoring and risk management where they fit your record.
