Personal statementLead with relevant study, placements, channel knowledge and one clear example of applying fashion marketing principles.Lead with strategic scope, audience ownership, campaign leadership and measured commercial or brand outcomes.

MetricsUse defensible measures tied to the work completed, such as engagement, traffic, event attendance or email response.Connect channel metrics with wider results, explaining how acquisition cost, customer value or audience behaviour informed investment.

How to write a fashion marketing CV

Use a clean, reverse-chronological CV of one or two pages, depending on your experience. Place your contact details first, followed by a short personal statement, core skills, employment history, education and relevant extras. Avoid a photo and date of birth.

SectionWhat to include
Personal statementYour level, fashion marketing focus and one or two credible outcomes
SkillsCapabilities that match the vacancy, backed up elsewhere in the CV
ExperienceRecent roles first, with concise achievement bullets and defensible figures
EducationQualification, institution, dates and relevant projects where useful
ExtrasPlacements, internships or portfolio details that strengthen your application

Tailor the opening paragraph to the employer's audience, brand position and advertised channels. In your experience section, make the result easy to spot: name the campaign or problem, explain your contribution and finish with the outcome. Your skills section should reflect work you can discuss at interview rather than every marketing term you recognise.

Entry-level applicants can draw on placements, short internships, university briefs, retail work and society projects. Campaign support, social media management and fashion-event organisation can provide useful evidence when described precisely. More experienced candidates, including those moving into marketing manager roles, should give context such as campaign scale, audience segment, channel mix, budget responsibility or team coordination.

Keep education compact once you have substantial experience. Add relevant projects when they demonstrate consumer research, branding, promotional materials or campaign analysis.

Personal statement examples

Stronger example

Fashion marketing executive with four years' experience turning consumer research into brand-aligned social, email and influencer campaigns. Managed a seasonal launch across three digital channels, increasing qualified website visits by 24% while reducing cost per acquisition by 11%. Confident translating creative direction into measurable activity and using campaign data to improve the next release.

Too generic

Hard-working and creative marketing professional who loves fashion and social media. I work well in a team, have excellent communication skills and am looking for an exciting role where I can grow and help a successful brand.

Writing your experience

Fashion marketing bullets work best when they show a decision and its commercial or audience effect. Start with a strong verb, identify the campaign, channel or consumer segment, then add a defensible result. Useful measures may include qualified traffic, engagement, conversion, cost per acquisition, bounce rate, lifetime value, email response, content delivery or event attendance. Choose the measure that explains whether the work succeeded; a large follower count without context says little.

Use this pattern: action + scope + method + result. For example, "Refined the paid-social audience for a capsule launch using campaign and website data, reducing cost per acquisition by 14% over six weeks." The figure is illustrative; your CV should contain only evidence drawn from your own records.

BeforeAfter
Helped with social mediaPlanned a four-week Instagram and TikTok content schedule for a student fashion event, lifting tracked ticket-page visits by 18%
Conducted customer researchAnalysed 420 survey responses to identify two priority customer groups, shaping the messaging for a seasonal campaign
Worked with influencersCoordinated eight creator briefs and approval rounds, delivering every asset before launch and raising campaign engagement by 12%

The stronger versions explain ownership, scale and consequence. They also separate creative work from performance analysis: a bullet might cover how you translated brand identity into content, while the next shows what the channel data prompted you to change.

Good opening verbs include analysed, planned, developed, tested, segmented, coordinated, briefed, launched, optimised, presented and negotiated. Reserve "led" for work you genuinely directed. Avoid stacking several tasks into one long sentence, and do not repeat the same metric in every bullet.

For placements and internships, small projects still count. State what you produced, who it was for and how it was used. A live brief, event, social schedule or research project is stronger when you explain the audience and practical outcome. At senior level, add scale through budget ownership, team coordination, agency or commercial-partner management, portfolio scope and the decisions made from performance data.

Education & certifications

List education in reverse-chronological order with the qualification, institution and dates. Recent graduates can add selected modules, a dissertation or live brief when these provide direct evidence of consumer research, brand identity, campaign planning, promotional materials or performance analysis. Once your employment history carries more weight, reduce this section to the essentials.

A Fashion Marketing BA can provide general and specialised preparation for a fashion marketing career, but present it as one educational route rather than a universal entry condition. If your course included practical CAD work, consumer profiling, branding theory, project coordination or sustainable materials for packaging and labelling, mention only the parts relevant to the vacancy and connect them to a project or output.

Further study is optional. Fashion Marketing BA students may consider an MSc in Branding and Marketing Communications, though it should appear on the CV only if completed or currently being studied. Do not imply that postgraduate study is necessary for every fashion marketing role.

Some professionally accredited marketing courses provide a route towards CIM qualifications through the Graduate Gateway. This applies to graduates of the accredited course, so give the precise course and route rather than suggesting that every degree has the same status. Course accreditation by the Chartered Management Institute should likewise be stated only when it applies to your course.

Do not treat qualifications reported for previously accepted students as admission requirements. For any named qualification or professional route, use the official title, identify its status accurately and avoid unexplained abbreviations.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • AvoidListing fashion interests without showing marketing work, such as audience research, campaign planning or content created to a brand brief.

InsteadReplace broad claims with evidence. Name the audience, channel and brief, then state what you produced and the result you measured.

  • AvoidDescribing social media activity as posting content, with no mention of campaign purpose, audience response or performance.

InsteadExplain the campaign goal, your contribution and a defensible metric such as engagement, traffic, sign-ups or cost per acquisition.

  • AvoidTreating creativity and analysis as separate strengths, so the CV shows attractive ideas but no evidence that data changed a decision.

InsteadPair creative work with research or performance evidence. Show how consumer insight or campaign metrics shaped the message, channel or next test.

  • AvoidUsing one generic CV for fashion marketing, merchandising, communications and unrelated retail vacancies.

InsteadMatch the fashion marketing CV to the advertised work. Bring the most relevant campaigns, placements, channels and audience knowledge towards the top.

  • AvoidGiving internships and placements only a title and date, which hides useful hands-on experience.

InsteadAdd concise achievement bullets covering real campaign work, social media management, event organisation or promotional materials, using only figures you can defend.
