Housekeeper CV example and writing guide

Updated 7 August 2026

A good housekeeper CV gives employers clear evidence that you can maintain clean, orderly spaces and work reliably without constant supervision. This guide shows how to shape that evidence for hotel, private-home, contractor and care-setting applications, whether you are entering the occupation or bringing years of experience. If you are applying for closely related cleaning roles, see this cleaner CV example.

Personal statementLeads with transferable cleaning experience, reliability and readiness to learn the employer's routines.Leads with depth of housekeeping experience, team or shift responsibility, inspection scope and measurable service results.
Experience evidenceUses examples from placements, hospitality support, domestic work or other roles involving cleaning, laundry and customer requests.Shows responsibility across larger room allocations or communal areas, difficult turnarounds, standards checks and maintenance escalation.
MetricsUses modest, defensible figures such as rooms supported per shift, punctuality or checklist completion.Uses wider measures such as rooms inspected, colleagues coordinated, supply variance, rework reduction or inspection pass rates.
Skills emphasisPrioritises bed making, linen and towel replacement, restocking, laundry handling, dusting, vacuuming and mopping.Adds room inspection, workflow allocation, domestic-supply monitoring, record accuracy and follow-up on reported defects.
Setting-specific detailConnects transferable examples directly to the advertised hotel, private-home or contractor setting.Shows detailed knowledge of the target setting and how housekeeping work is organised, checked and handed over there.
Leadership evidenceShows dependable teamwork, clear communication and appropriate referral of requests or problems to a supervisor.Shows how rooms were inspected, priorities coordinated, standards checked and issues escalated across a team or shift.

How to write a housekeeper CV

Use a clean, conventional layout that a hiring manager can scan quickly. Aim for one page if you have limited experience and no more than two pages when you have a longer work history. Put your name, location, mobile number and email address in a simple header; leave out your photo and date of birth.

Follow the header with a three-to-five-line personal statement, then key skills, employment history and education. List jobs in reverse-chronological order. Additional information, such as relevant volunteering or interests, can sit at the end, but it should not displace stronger evidence.

SectionWhat to include
Personal statementYour experience level, strongest relevant skills, work setting and one convincing result
SkillsA short selection matched to the vacancy rather than a long generic list
ExperienceJob title, employer, location, dates and achievement-led bullets
EducationYour most recent education first, with the qualification, subject and dates
ExtrasRelevant languages, volunteering or interests only when they strengthen the application

Tailor the detail to the setting. A hotel application can foreground guest-room cleaning, bed making, linen replacement, room supplies and guest requests. For a care setting, give suitable evidence of general domestic work, laundry support, infection prevention practices and accurate task records. A private-home or contractor application may benefit from examples that show discretion, consistency and the ability to organise an independent workload.

Keep each employment entry easy to skim. Open bullets with a direct verb, state the scope of the work and finish with a result or defensible figure. If you are new to housekeeping, use evidence from hospitality, retail, care, volunteering or home-support work, but explain the transferable task rather than merely naming the sector.

Personal statement examples

Stronger example

Dependable housekeeper with four years' experience maintaining guest rooms and communal areas in busy accommodation settings. Skilled in room preparation, linen changes, supply checks and prompt maintenance reporting, with a record of completing assigned rooms accurately within shift schedules. Known for calm guest service, careful work and reliable handovers.

Too generic

Hard-working person looking for a housekeeping job. I am friendly, work well alone or in a team and can do any duties required. I would like an opportunity to develop my career and believe I would be good at the role.

Writing your experience

A duty list tells the reader what your job involved. A strong experience section shows what you handled, how well you did it and what changed because of your work. Build each bullet around a simple pattern: action + scope + result. For example: "Prepared 14 guest rooms per shift and achieved 96% first-pass inspection results over six months." The figures in any housekeeper CV sample are illustrative; your own CV should contain only figures you can support.

Useful measures include rooms completed per shift, communal areas covered, inspection outcomes, turnaround times, supply discrepancies found, laundry volumes, attendance records and maintenance issues reported. Choose measures you genuinely recorded or can verify. A small, precise result is more persuasive than a large claim with no context.

BeforeAfter
Cleaned hotel roomsPrepared up to 13 guest rooms per shift, including bed making, linen replacement and bathroom restocking, with 95% passing first inspection
Helped with laundrySorted, washed and returned an average of 18 laundry loads each week, cutting outstanding items at handover from six to two
Reported problemsLogged 27 maintenance issues over one quarter and gave clear room details, allowing 24 to be resolved before the next guest arrival

For care-setting work, connect routine cleaning to the people and records involved. You might write: "Completed daily dusting, vacuuming and mopping across 22 resident rooms and recorded every assigned task before handover." If bodily-fluid cleaning formed part of your work, describe it plainly and focus on safe procedure rather than dramatic language. Laundry bullets can cover washing, drying and ironing bedding or residents' personal clothing.

Good opening verbs include prepared, cleaned, sanitised, replenished, inspected, recorded, organised, sorted, washed, resolved, reported and supported. Vary them naturally, but do not reach for inflated language. Keep current-role bullets in the present tense and earlier roles in the past tense. Three or four focused bullets per relevant job usually read better than a long account of every routine task.

Education & certifications

Housekeeping has more than one entry route, so the education section should report what you have actually completed rather than imply that one particular qualification is universal. Give the qualification or course title exactly as awarded, followed by the subject, education provider and completion date. Put the most recent item first. If your formal education is limited or not closely related, keep this section brief and let recent work evidence carry more weight.

People moving from hotel cleaning, porter or kitchen work may progress into room-attendant or housekeeper work through company training and promotion. On a CV, show that route through the employment history: record the earlier post, the training completed in plain generic terms and the date or responsibility change that followed. Do not rename workplace instruction as an external certification.

Because the grounding for this role does not support a named credential, this housekeeper CV template should not add one merely to make the document look fuller. You can include genuine employer training, induction or short courses, but use the wording shown on your own record and do not claim an issuer, licence or qualification that you do not hold. If a vacancy asks for a role-specific qualification, mirror its exact wording only when it accurately describes your own education.

For an early-career applicant, useful education notes can point to relevant, verifiable work: following written instructions, completing practical assignments to time, maintaining shared spaces or contributing to organised activities. Keep the connection restrained. School attendance alone does not prove professional cleaning ability.

More experienced candidates can shorten older education entries and make recent workplace development easier to find. Supervisors may also mention documented training connected with room inspections, work allocation or record keeping, provided that they completed it. The same rule applies throughout: state what happened, who provided it when that information is accurate, and when it was completed.

Legal duties that belong to a private-home employer are not qualifications for the housekeeper and should not be presented as candidate credentials. Where a housekeeper is directly employed in a UK private home rather than working through an agency or on a self-employed basis, the home employer must check the person's right to work, hold employers' liability insurance, register as an employer, run payroll, and make the applicable tax and National Insurance deductions and payments. The employer must also provide statutory benefits that apply to the employment and cannot require an employed housekeeper to become self-employed. These points concern the employment arrangement, not material to place in an education section.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • AvoidUsing one generic housekeeper CV for hotel, private-home and cleaning-contractor applications.

InsteadMatch your evidence to the setting. For a hotel vacancy, prioritise room cleaning, bed making, linen replacement, restocking and guest requests; use only examples you can support.

  • AvoidListing duties without showing the standard, volume or result of the work.

InsteadTurn each duty into evidence by adding defensible details such as rooms completed, areas covered, inspection results, turnaround times or stock discrepancies resolved.

  • AvoidBurying relevant experience under unrelated earlier jobs.

InsteadPlace employment in reverse-chronological order, then give the most space to roles and transferable tasks that match the vacancy.

  • AvoidWriting a personal statement full of claims such as 'hard-working' or 'excellent' without evidence.

InsteadUse three to five lines to state your relevant experience, practical strengths and work ethic, supported by one specific example of scope or performance.

  • AvoidLeaving out routine reporting and record-keeping work in a care-setting application.

InsteadWhere it reflects your experience, mention accurate domestic-task records, organisation-directed IT entries, supply tracking and prompt maintenance reporting.

  • AvoidAdding hobbies or references while core housekeeping evidence remains thin.

InsteadTreat extras as optional. Use the space first for contact details, a focused personal statement, employment history, relevant skills and education.
